End of Summer Gardening Jobs

As August, and one of the hottest, driest summers begins to draw to a close, the garden still has plenty to offer. Late summer is the perfect time to enjoy the last of the heat and sunshine while preparing your outdoor space for the changing season ahead.
We’ve put together a list of a few things you can do to be prepared for Autumn.
Start by deadheading faded flowers to encourage a final burst of colour and keep borders looking tidy.
Regular watering is still important, even with the recent rain showers we’ve experienced, and container plants may need extra attention to ensure they get enough moisture.
Harvest ripe fruit and vegetables regularly, including tomatoes, beans, courgettes and berries, to make the most of your summer crops.
Now is also a good time to trim back overgrown plants and remove any damaged or diseased leaves. Keep an eye out for weeds, as tackling them now can make autumn gardening much easier.
If your lawn has suffered in the summer heat, raise the cutting height or avoid mowing entirely until your lawn is looking greener and healthier.
You can also begin planning for autumn by purchasing spring-flowering bulbs and clearing space for where those bulbs will be planted. You may wish to add fertiliser to help rejuvenate the soil prior to planting.
Finally, we encourage you to take a moment to relax and enjoy your garden. The end of summer brings warm evenings, rich colours and a final chance to appreciate everything you have grown throughout the season.
