We understand January isn’t the most inviting time to get out in the garden; the weather is cold and wet, the ground is hard and the beautiful blooms are hidden, waiting to make an appearance later in the year.
But, if you’re still looking forward to getting in the garden, here are a few ideas of what you can be doing to keep on top of things.
1. Clear up and tidy your shed or garage.
It’s a good time to identify any tools that need fixing and anything you’re missing that you may want later in the year.
2. Protect any plants and shrubs from frost.
This can be done using bubble wrap, newspaper or horticultural fleece. If possible, move any potted plants into a greenhouse or indoor area to provide them with that extra bit of protection.
3. Keep your bird feeders stocked up.
Putting out bird food and fresh water for birds, helps to keep them active throughout the colder months, and a higher chance of surviving. The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is taking place between the 24th and 26th January, an ideal time to sit back, relax and watch how many different types of birds visit your garden.
We have a large variety of bird food available at the Garden Centre including nuts, seeds and fat balls. We also have bird feeders of all shapes and sizes, we guarantee you’ll find the ideal one to suit your garden.
